Think Local... Act Local

2009 Climate Action Workshop Reports

Across Northeastern BC and throughout the province, there is growing interest and pressure to take action on climate change. In late March 2009, Sci-Tech North coordinated a workshop with a small but important sampling of the key organizations and sectors across the Northeast.  These representatives gathered in Fort St John to explore the potential for collaborating regionally on climate action.

There are at least two powerful rationales for regional collaboration:

  • Significant economies of scale can be achieved by sharing some strategic planning, policy and program development, and capacity building priorities.
  • Some of our greatest climate and energy challenges and opportunities are regional scale issues such as harnessing key renewable energy resources, or advancing more efficient regional transportation systems.

The intention of this initial scoping workshop was to initiate the development of a more concrete agenda engaging more players across the Northeast.  The attached report summarizes the results of our one day workshop, the Blue Sky Climate Action Collaborative, and offers direction for moving forward.
